Name: Beckwithshaw Primary School
Executive Headteacher: Lisa Jackson-Ward
Beckwithshaw is a small village school with a big heart. We believe in learning which is enjoyable, challenging and exciting. We are proud to know every child in our school as an individual: our aim is to instil in each one a joy of learning and thirst for knowledge which will last a lifetime.
Our caring approach provides challenge in a safe environment to build resilience and self-esteem.
At Beckwithshaw School we offer an experienced, enthusiastic and well established staff team, full wrap-around care, small class-sizes and, in addition to our playground, climbing wall and natural wildlife area, we work in collaboration with our village community to provide a forest school zone, a large field and use of our adjacent village hall and church.
We believe in the children having a say in their own learning and valuing and nurturing each other at school, not only through collaboration and partnerships but also across school years through our buddy system, house teams and via our active School Council, Sports Crew and Digital leader positions.
This whole-school comradeship has shown itself to be a particular strength of our school community during each lockdown.
While our children and families have had to be separated, it has been a joy to see the children organising virtual online whole school competitions, taking part in online PE, celebrating achievements in school-wide ‘Zoom’ assemblies as well as continuing to support one another on our online learning platform.
We are proud that we have been able to continue our children’s education both at school and at home, looking for safe and creative ways for the children to enjoy the fullness of the school curriculum.
However, we now cannot wait to be together again soon and are looking forward to resuming our music clubs and ‘arts appreciation’ assemblies, film club, sport, yoga, after-school activities such as bingo, chess nights and four-square, our forthcoming cricket coaching and benefitting from the exciting activities planned by our dedicated PTA – Friends of Beckwithshaw School.
We can’t wait to welcome back our community reading volunteers and get stuck into our child to child playground story-telling sessions and forest school.
Our children aspire to achieve the six spirits espoused by Olympic athletes: determination, respect, honesty, passion, self-belief and teamwork and our staff are driven by the philosophy of the poet, William Butler Yeats: ‘Education is… the lighting of a fire.’
Come and visit us and meet our dedicated staff team and amazing, confident children. We all believe at Beckwithshaw that we are ‘Learning to learn…Learning for life.’
