Your Harrogate Podcast - Episode 294

29 minutes | Friday, 6 October 2023

In this episode of the Your Harrogate podcast, presenter Pete Egerton focuses on two charity challenges.
The first is the Yorkshire marathon, which is set to take place on Sunday 15th October in York.
Amongst those running it, Ben Kempley, who tragically lost his 23-year-old sister Ellie last September, to SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome).
Ellie was a nursery teacher who was midway through an AMI Montessori 3-6 Diploma and so her family are establishing a scholarship in her memory at the Maria Montessori Institute.
Their aim is to support aspiring teachers just like Ellie.
Ben has set up a GoFundMe campaign in memory of his “beautiful sister” with the hope of raising £16,000.
On the same day, Oliver Blake and a team of family and friends, will carry an 80kg weighted stretcher whilst tackling the Yorkshire 3 peaks.
The hope is to set a Guinness World Record in the process and the reason?
Oli's wife Sheena was diagnosed with a stage four incurable brain tumour back in June.
Since diagnosis, Sheena has somehow summoned the strength to raise thousands for the Brain tumour charity and now a good family friend, has suggested the Yorkshire 3 peaks, to raise funds for Sheena, Oliver and their two girls to make memories...
