The Harrogate district is preparing for a long weekend of celebrations as the Queen marks her Platinum Jubilee next month.
The country will enjoy a four-day weekend from Thursday 2nd until Sunday 5th June as Her Majesty The Queen becomes the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service.
From ‘Jubilee Square’ on the Stray to festivities at Mother Shipton’s, here’s what’s happening in the Harrogate district to mark the occasion:
Harrogate
Jubilee Square
When? 2nd – 5th June
Where? West Park Stray
The West Park Stray is set to be the epicentre of Harrogate’s Jubilee celebrations as it is transformed into ‘Jubilee Square.’
The area will become the host of a family-friendly festival, with festivities for the whole family taking place over four days.
There will be live music, a Harrogate mastermind quiz, dog show, films and a live broadcast of the main events taking place in London on a big screen on the Stray.
And we at Your Harrogate will be broadcasting live from Jubilee Square and compering the festivities on stage!
In addition to the Jubilee Square events, six sets of street entertainers will be performing across the four days in Harrogate’s town centre, which will be dressed with more than 4km of bunting to mark the occasion.
Jubilee in the Gardens
When? 2nd – 5th June
Where? Valley Gardens
Valley Gardens – another iconic area of Harrogate – will also be hosting Jubilee festivities.
Visitors can expect a mix of live open-air music, family entertainment and activities, demonstrations and fairground rides.
In addition, an artisan market will run from Friday 3rd June for the whole weekend, offering a selection of local produce, crafts and plants, all from the Sun Colonnade.
The event is completely free to attend and has been designed to ensure under 12’s can share in the celebrations.
Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea
When? 3rd & 4th June

Time? 3pm
Visit Harrogate is hosting a tour around the cultural centre of Harrogate with a local guide before a memorable afternoon tea at Pal Court Cafe.
The tour will take a look at some of the many royal visits to Harrogate, with visitors discovering why Harrogate has always appealed to the aristocracy.
This experience is being hosted just twice – once at 3pm on Friday 3rd June and once at 3pm on Saturday 4th June.
BBQ Street Party
When? 2nd-5th June
Where? The Empress on the Stray
The Empress on the Stray will be celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee with entertainment for all the family!
They’ll be hosting a BBQ alongside face painting, Irish dancers, festival glitter, Love Pop Choir, a balloon artist and street dancers.
Joiners Arms Jubilee party
When? 4th-5th June
Where? Hampsthwaite Memorial Hall and Joiners Arms
The memorial hall in Hampsthwaite will be open from 2pm on Saturday and Sunday with all sorts of fun, from bouncy castles and hog roasts on Saturday, to raffles and afternoon tea on Sunday!
There will be live 50s and 60s music from Still Crazy from 7pm on Saturday along with a collection in aid of St.Micheal’s Hospice
Little Bird Artisan Market

Where? Valley Gardens

The Harrogate Charity, Supporting Older People is hosting a Tea and Talk event at Follifoot village hall as an opportunity for older people to meet new and old friends with an afternoon of tea and entertainment. Jubilee Weekend at Mother Shipton’s

Mother Shipton’s Cave will be hosting some Jubilee celebrations of their own, starting in May half term.
The park will be adorned with royal-themed decorations as visitors are invited to check out various giant story books and fairy-tale themed displays for photo opportunities.
You’ll also be able to sit on the Wishing Chair throne and host your own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with artisanal coffee, cakes, sandwiches and ice cream available to purchase.
New for May half term will be a brand new exhibition of fantasy creatures in the museum alongside petrified celebrity items.

Tractor Fest at Newby Hall

After a two-year break, the UK’s largest Tractor Festival returns to Newby Hall in Ripon – and it’s bigger than ever having been extended to three days over the Bank Holiday Jubilee weekend.
The festival attracts more than 12,000 visitors and 1,500 exhibits, from vintage tractors and modern marques, to stationary engines, commercial vehicles, cars, lorries and motorcycles.
Tractor Fest will feature a host of entertainment, crafts, food and drink for the whole family.
Fun activities will include mini tractor driving, face painting, colouring, interactive exhibits and working machinery. There are also trade stands, crafts and a choice of street food.
Market Square

Ripon’s Market Square will host an array of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
Visitors will be treated to live music entertainment including Punch & Judy, fairground rides and face painting.
A range of tribute acts, including one from Katherine Jenkins, will also be performing.
And on the final day, there will be a presentation of the city’s Platinum Jubilee Horn at 8:50pm – Ripon City Council’s commemoration horn for the Platinum Jubilee.
Boroughbridge
Great Ouseburn Garden Festival

Great Ouseburn is also set to be adorned in celebratory royal bunting alongside a number of other festivities.
The village will host music from Camerata Sonora and Yorkshire Wolds Versatile Brass and food and drinks including café, pizza oven, ice cream and Pimms.
There will be children’s games and activities, a raffle, a 1950’s window trail and a TV screen with live coverage of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
