Wetherby's annual bonfire event on The Ings has been cancelled due to safety concerns caused by flooding.
Wetherby bonfire event cancelled due to flooding The annual bonfire event on Wetherby Ings has been postponed. The bonfire and fireworks display was due to take place tomorrow evening (Saturday 4th November) but has been postponed due to flooding. The event is organised by Wetherby Town Council, who took to social media to reveal the sad news. A spokesperson said:
"We’ve got no alternative but to postpone this year’s bonfire on the Ings. "We’ve made this decision with a heavy heart and are very sorry to have to do this. "As you’re aware, the weather has been very bad - almost double the annual rainfall in the area during the month of October."Another added:
"The ground at The Ings is flooded, and health and safety is very important to us. "We don’t believe we can deliver this event in a safe way and the last thing we want is to cause injury."Those who had bought tickets in advance are advised to keep them, as Wetherby Town Council has promised another event in the coming months for which they will be valid.
