Two people taken to hospital after police incident on Woodfield Road

Two people have been taken to hospital after a major police incident on Woodfield Road in Bilton this morning (Thursday).

Two people have been taken to hospital after a major police incident on Woodfield Road in Bilton this morning (Thursday).

Armed police were called just after 7am and, after a four-hour road closure, arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of affray.

The man was taken to hospital shortly after, alongside a woman who sustained an injury to her hand.

Eye witness reports suggest the man was throwing items from his window.

A cordon was put in place and a police negotiator was sent to the scene near Woodfield Community Primary School to help resolve the situation.

The cordon was lifted just after 10am and the road has been reopened. Police officers thanked residents for their patience and remain in the area to offer reassurance to the local community. Police issued the following statement:

"North Yorkshire Police has thanked local residents for their patience whilst they responded to the earlier incident on Woodfield Road in Harrogate.

"A cordon had been put in place and a police negotiator was sent to the scene to help resolve the situation which was reported to police shortly before 7am.

"A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of affray and has been taken to hospital for treatment. "A woman was also taken to hospital with an injury to her hand."
