Stump Cross Caverns owners start 105-hour underground challenge

The owners of Stump Cross Caverns have kicked off a challenge to sleep underground in the caves for 105 hours.

The owners of Stump Cross Caverns have kicked off a challenge to sleep underground in the caves for 105 hours. Lisa Bowerman and Nick Markham are raising awareness for their fundraising campaign as they aim to raise enough money to relight the caves at Stump Cross. The crowdfunding page, which has a target of £200,000, currently stands at £51,598. The pair will remain in the caves until 8pm on Friday (15th October) whilst live streaming it via their Facebook page. Ahead of the challenge, Lisa told Your Harrogate:

"It’s not going to be easy, but you have to do these things don’t you?

"We’re prepared to go to any lengths to save the caves and to keep it open for future generations.

"We’re going to camp down in the caves for 105 hours just to get the word out and to raise that money."

Having already raffled their VW Campervan and other Stump Cross prizes, Lisa said the flat was the last thing they could use to raise money for the caves. She said:

"It’s a beautiful flat positioned really well on Pateley high street.

"We’ve had offers of £130,000 but it's the only thing that we have left to raise the vital funds that we need to enable us to relight these caves."
