It’s been a tough start to the year with the country going into another lockdown, with many of us experiencing feelings of loneliness and isolation.

But for the older people in our community who are living on their own, those feelings are even more prevalent, which is why it’s so important to reach out to those most in need.

Rudding Park are teaming up with local charity, Supporting Older People (SOP) to deliver treats to 250 of SOP’s older members who may be alone on Valentine’s Day.

Spearheading the project is Julia Featherstone, Rudding Park’s Front Office Manager. She said:

“Being furloughed for much of the last 11 months has not diminished the team’s desire to do what they can to make people smile. In fact this, and having to self-isolate has really highlighted the importance of alleviating isolation.

“With this in mind, we are delighted to have teamed up with Supporting Older People to support the amazing work they do in our wonderful community. As it is Valentine’s Day, we wanted to let their members know that we are thinking of them.”

Rudding Park’s chefs have been cooking up a storm to create hundreds of homemade treats, including passion fruit chocolate truffles and heart shaped biscuits, that will be carefully gift wrapped and delivered by a team of volunteers from Rudding Park to 250 of SOP’s older members.

All deliveries have been meticulously planned to ensure social distancing and the right safety precautions are put into place to make these deliveries possible.

Julia Lightfoot, Supporting Older People’s Befriending & Activities Manager, said:

“We were over the moon to have received a call from Rudding Park to organise this Valentine’s Day treat. Projects like this one make such a difference the members we support, it means a great deal to them that there are people out there who are thinking of them.

“These delicious little treats that Rudding Park have so kindly arranged will certainly bring a smile to their faces and help them feel loved this Valentine’s Day!”
