The Ripon Poppy Appeal went ahead at the weekend despite fears that the annual tradition may be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Councillor Stuart Martin MBE, a Ripon resident and the Mayor of Harrogate, lead a team of volunteers as they displayed poppies all around Ripon City. And he is also urging residents to stay at home to observe the two-minute silence on Remembrance Sunday from their doorstep. "I would like to thank firefighters from Ripon Station for their help in putting up the poppy displays. “This year we are asking people to display poppies in the windows at their home instead, which can be downloaded from the internet. “On Remembrance Sunday and again on the 11th November why not come out onto your front doorstep at 11am and observe the two-minute silence whilst also observing social distancing, in the same way we all came together on a Thursday evening to thank the key workers.”[caption id="attachment_2354" align="alignnone" width="1600"] Firefighters from Ripon Station were among the volunteers on hand to help with the poppy appeal.[/caption] Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
