An idea that has been two years in the making, the Autumn Harrogate Flower Show will go ahead at a new location later this month.

The annual event, which was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, is usually held at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

But in a move that organisers believe will provide more “content” for visitors, the show will be at Newby Hall & Gardens from 17-19th September.

Nick Smith, Director of the Harrogate Flower Show, gave us a previous of this year’s event which he believes will be a “huge treat” for visitors.

He said:

“I think the fact that we’re actually able to put this show on in the first place is a fantastic thing.

“We’re just so looking forward to it – the idea that we can merge all our favourite things from the Autumn show, giant vegetables, floral art, and merge them with something that is so cultural in Newby in terms of its landscape, its just a huge treat and I really hope our visitors enjoy it.”

Nick also believes the new location will open the show up to visitors from further afield, although some people travel from as far as Berwick and Doncaster each year.

He added:

“We’re very lucky to have a very wide audience so moving to Newby is equally as valid as the showground from our point of view, and the fact that we’re just off the A1 does help too!

“We’ve been very conscious of making sure we stick to our horticultural roots but we’ve widened that out, for example this year we have the great northern larder stage, talking about how to grow vegetables and fruits and then how to cook them.”

Organisers have promised all the usual attractions at the new location – giant veg, leading UK plant nurseries, fruit and veg shows, autumn blooms, talks and demonstrations, crafts, gifts and food.
