Police have begun an investigation into an incident which forced the closure of a section of A1 southbound between junctions 47 and 48 on Easter Monday morning.

Police have begun an investigation into an incident which forced the closure of a section of A1 southbound between junctions 47 and 48 on Easter Monday morning. The road was shut at around 6.25am and remained closed for a number of hours due to what officers say was 'an incident involving a single vehicle'. They're now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch with them. They want to hear from anyone who saw a black VW estate car with hazard lights on, which was stationary in the southbound carriageway, between 5am and 6.30am on Easter Monday morning. Police are also asking anyone with dashcam footage from the area at that time to get in touch. If you can help, you can contact police by calling 101, pressing 2 and asking for Traffic Constable 174 David Minto. Alternatively you can email David.minto@northyorkshire.police.uk You can use reference number 12210091937 when passing on any information. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here
