Over 1,000 organisations sign up for inaugural Green Jumper Day

Over 1,000 businesses, schools, universities, organisations and people staying at home have signed up for the inaugural Green Jumper Day.

Over 1,000 businesses, schools, universities, colleges, organisations and people staying at home have signed up for the inaugural Green Jumper Day. Organised by charity Green Jumper, the annual event aims to take action against climate change on 26th November.

All involved will be turning down their heating - saving energy and money - whilst wearing a woolly jumper to keep warm (a green one if they have one) and donating to the Green Jumper charity.

The charity’s strapline is 'for the next generation,' so the money raised will be spent on reforestation projects and on providing free books and educational materials to schools.

Alec Walton, the founder of Green Jumper, said:

"It is thanks to businesses like GreenZoneCleaning and the thousands of people taking part in Green Jumper Day that will allow us to achieve our goals, and plant as many trees and give away as many books as possible.

"It’s not too late to get involved. Simply go to www.greenjumperday.com to sign up."

Alec explained that the aim of Green Jumper Day is to ensure our children and our children’s children can inherit a planet worthy of inheritance.

Steve Trew, Managing Director of GreenZone Cleaning & Support Services, one of the headline sponsors of Green Jumper, said:

"We are really proud to be involved with Green Jumper from the outset. When we first started dialogue, it was clear that the purpose and essence of Green Jumper Day was not only a wonderful initiative, but in true harmony with our business mission and ethics.

"In the wake of COP26, we know we all need to play our part in trying to mitigate climate change and as so many of us at GreenZone are parents, we truly appreciate the value and importance of educating the next generation on such key issues for the future of their planet."

Green Jumper Day will take place on 26th November 2021. Find out more about Green Jumper here. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
