Newly named "Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta" rescheduled for 2021

The “Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta” has been rescheduled for September 2021 with organisers promising the "biggest, best Balloon Fiesta yet".

The newly named “Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta” has been rescheduled for September 2021 with organisers promising to deliver the "biggest, best Balloon Fiesta yet". Previously known as the York Balloon Fiesta, the event welcomes over 35,000 people and transforms the skies above York with over 50 giant colourful Hot Air Balloons. Organisers had hoped that mass events may be able to go ahead and had re-scheduled the fiesta to for May 2021. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, organisers have taken the step to postpone the festival to its new dates which are the 24th-26th September on the Knavesmire. John Lowery, Event Organiser said.

"Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our event from May until September 2021 (which is our usual event dates) on the Knavesmire. This is because currently we feel holding the event in May could be too early in relation to the Covid-19 Vaccine Rollout. "Therefore, we will take Matt Hancock’s word that every adult will have been offered the vaccine by September, and then deliver you Yorkshire's biggest, best Balloon Fiesta yet."
[caption id="attachment_6203" align="alignnone" width="1441"] The York Balloon Fiesta in 2019[/caption] Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta 2021 Come September this year, organisers can confirm that the event site will be fenced off. This will allow the event to adhere to any government guidance related to the pandemic (i.e. limited capacity, sanitising stations, track and trace etc) In addition to these changes, this year’s Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta will be introducing a £3 entry charge for anyone over 1m tall. This one-off charge will give you a wristband which allows you entry to the whole event for the 3 days as many times as you require. Recognising that the last 12 months have been extremely difficult for our local charities to raise vital fundraising, £1 from each wristband entry will be split and donated between three local charities which are, St Leonards Hospice, York Rescue Boat and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Kevin Hutchinson, community fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance said.
"Yorkshire Air Ambulance would like to thank the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta for the support they have given the charity over the past 4 years. Along with many other people we were sad that last year’s event, like many other events, couldn’t take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic and understand the hard decisions which event organisers have had to take when planning their events. "We are once again looking forward to attending the event in September 2021 giving us the opportunity to raise funds required to provide a lifesaving rapid response emergency service to the people of Yorkshire. Thank you to John and his team at the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta for choosing Yorkshire Air Ambulance as one of their three chosen charities to support at this year’s event, helping to keep both Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s helicopters flying over Yorkshire and saving lives."
The new name for the event comes complete with a brand new website where you can find more information, as well as car parking and entry tickets as soon as the government lockdown restrictions have been lifted. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
