A new TV documentary starts tonight which will showcase the work of the women officers, staff and volunteers at North Yorkshire Police. From those just starting out on their career like student officer, PC Charlotte Wood, to the Chief Constable Lisa Winward, cameras followed the women at work and home to show the extraordinary reality they face in their working lives and how that balances with their everyday lives out of uniform. The series follows the work of women in various roles across the force, from the Force Control Room, to Crime Scene Investigation, from response teams to the off-road motorcycle team, from roads policing to positive action. Each episode is based around the unfolding stories of three women – officers and staff the programme will return to across the series. Chief Constable Lisa Winward, said:
“It’s vital that the stereotypes of policing in times past become a dim and distant memory. Policing requires many skills that can only be brought to the service by an inclusive and diverse workforce. We’re proud to have a high proportion of woman in senior roles at North Yorkshire Police, but there is more to be done to encourage the next generation of women into policing and ensure we are truly representative of the people we serve. We hope the documentary gives any women thinking of joining up, the inspiration and motivation to do so.” “My thanks go to the women, their colleagues, families and friends who allowed the cameras into their lives, allowing a glimpse into the challenging, dangerous, emotional, but highly rewarding career that is policing.
