Harrogate Borough Council have opened a brand new 19 bedroom homeless centre in Starbeck this week.

The facility called Fern House is on Spa Lane and cost £2.3 million to build.

The bedrooms are all self-contained and have their own kitchen and bathroom facilites.

Two of the bedrooms are fully accessible.

As well as providing accommodation, the centre will provide a complete support package for people who are homeless.

Maggie Gibson, the council’s housing needs manager, said:

“People placed here will be those people who are at threat of homelessness and have no accommodation to reside in.

“The aim of Fern House will be to create a pathway for that person.

“Anybody living here will have a housing options officer, a support officer and a private sector officer who works with them.”
