Mental Health and Wellbeing has been the focus for one primary school in Starbeck as pupils and staff have readjusted to school life after lockdown.
Starbeck Primary Academy welcomed their pupils back with a ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing Focus Week’, designed to explore experiences during lockdown and speak about different moods and feelings.
The children were asked to create bright and colourful artwork to talk about different emotions, whilst there was also the opportunity for pastoral support and nurture groups for children who felt anxious on their return to school.
Garry de Castro-Morland, Headteacher at Starbeck Primary Academy, said:
“This was a perfect road back into a full-time school day for our children, many of whom had spent many weeks learning remotely from home.
“The opportunity to express emotions and understanding of their own mental health through colourful artwork was rewarding in many ways.
“We were able to see any anxieties lift from shoulders very quickly which has enabled children to regain confidence to tackle new challenges ahead’
