A Harrogate family lawyer has been giving advice on divorce and separation as part of 'Good Divorce Week'.
A Harrogate-based specialist solicitors have received an increasing number of enquiries about divorces during the pandemic. And as part of 'Good Divorce Week', Consilia Legal, based in Leeds and on Station Parade, are giving advice on divorce and separation. The event, organised by Resolution, runs from 29th November - 3rd December and aims to kickstart conversations about how parents can embrace a child-focused approach to separation. Laura Clapton, a Director, Family Solicitor and Mediator at Consilia Legal, believes communication is key to an amicable separation:
"A good divorce for me is for both parties, particularly if they are parents, being able to have ongoing communication, and ensure that that communication is neutral, children centred and looking at finding solutions that will work for the whole family.""The point of Good Divorce Week is for 'members of resolution' to promote the benefits of having an amicable divorce.
"It's about promoting amicable divorce and sharing information about what resources are out there to help them have a good divorce and also the impact on children of a bad divorce."
Christmas is usually a busy time of year for Consilia Legal, who have offices in both Harrogate and Leeds.
But the 'peaks' in enquiries that the solicitors usually receive have changed since the start of the pandemic. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here."What we generally find is that historically there are peaks in the year and they can often occur after there has been a period of holiday, whether that be Christmas or a school holiday.
"What we’ve found during the pandemic is that those peaks haven’t existed as there has been quite a consistent increase in enquiries of new families going through separation.
"After Christmas you can normally see an increase in January when the children are settled back in school."
