The second part of the government’s first lockdown lifting phase in England is to begin on Monday 29th March.

This follows the first lot of changes which took place on 8th March and saw pupils return to the classroom for the first time this year.

More restrictions will be lifted as part of phase two on 12th April, followed by changes every five weeks as long as England meets its targets for tackling coronavirus.

So, what is going to change on 29th March?

Social Gatherings

  • The government say it is safer for people to meet outdoors rather than indoors. On March 29th, outdoor gatherings (including in private gardens) of either six people or two households will be allowed.

Business and Activities

  • Outdoor sports facilities like tennis courts, basketball courts and golf courses can reopen as of March 29th.
  • People can use these venues in a group of six or with members of up to two households.

Travel

  • The ‘stay at home’ rule will end on March 29th.
  • The government say people should continue to work from home where they can and minimise the number of journeys they make where possible – like not travelling at rush hour.
  • Travel abroad will still be stopped unless in exceptional circumstances and holidays will not be allowed.
