Lightwater Valley has rebranded as an adventure park aimed at a younger audience and so have began work to dismantle 'The Ultimate' coaster.

Lightwater Valley begin work to dismantle 'The Ultimate' rollercoaster Lightwater Valley has began work to dismantle 'The Ultimate' rollercoaster as part of their decision to permanently remove it from the park. Lightwater Valley has received overwhelming praise since rebranding as a 'family adventure park' last year. Their aim is to attract a younger audience, making some of their previously operational thrill rides inappropriate for families with small children. And Brighton Pier Group, which owns the park, has announced The Ultimate is no longer part of its plans to make Lightwater the North's number one family destination. Anne Ackord, Chief Executive Officer of Brighton Pier Group, said:

"We have devoted much time and effort considering the future of The Ultimate. The ride has been out of service for some years now and the process of assessing the viability of bringing it back into use was a long one. "We are mindful of its nostalgic status and that many of our visitors have fond memories of riding The Ultimate coaster. "Nevertheless, given both the investment required to bring it up to acceptable standards of safety and the re-imagining of Lightwater Valley as a family-orientated Adventure Park, we have decided to close The Ultimate permanently and remove it from the park."
