Knaresborough Cricket Club has announced it will not be holding an ‘attended’ duck race on New Year’s Day.

The event was due to be held from High Bridge on 1st January in aid of local charity Henshaws.

However the event will not be welcoming visitors and organisers are deciding whether to hold the event virtually or postpone to a later date.

The annual Knaresborough Duck Race.

Knaresborough Cricket Club issued a statement via social media:

“It is with regret that we announce that we feel that we can not hold an ‘attended’ duck race this New Years Day.

“This is after much thought and consideration for the people of Knaresborough, Henshaws, our friends by the Riverside and the organisers from Knaresborough Cricket Club.

“Over the next two days we will decide whether we hold the race at a later date, or whether we hold a ‘virtual’ race on New Years Day at the cricket club. Watch this space!”

The event took place virtually last year due to safety concerns around covid.
