‘Community Hero’ award winner from Knaresborough has died
A man from Knaresborough, who was named Stray FM’s ‘Community Local Hero’ at their Local Hero Awards in 2019, has passed away following an illness.
David Harper, who worked as a Street Cleaner for Knaresborough Council for over 18 years, was a popular figure in the local community.
He received backing from locals when a petition was raised to protest council cuts that would affect his job, and received tremendous support when he was nominated for Stray FM’s ‘Community Hero’ award in 2019.
Sira Studios, who helped produce the video to celebrate David’s nomination, said they were ‘very sad’ to hear of his death and were ‘proud’ to arrange a viewing of the short film at his funeral today.
