Knaresborough Swimming Pool will not re-open next month when lockdown restrictions are eased, due to an on-going issue with the filtration system.

Harrogate Borough Council say they’re waiting on specialist engineers from Spain, but they can’t come at the moment due to Covid travel rules.

The council add that the filtration system at Knaresborough Pool is nearly 30 years old, and only a single suitable bid was received when they conducted a tender process to decide which contractor would carry out the repairs.

They’ve looked into appointing UK-based engineers instead, but haven’t found a solution yet.

The council are hoping to have The Hydro, Nidderdale leisure centre and pool and Ripon leisure centre open from 12th April, subject to the availability of staff.

In a post on Twitter, Harrogate Borough Council said:

“We understand your frustrations and are equally as disappointed that the pool cannot open. As soon as we have an update we will let you know.”
