The Starbeck community have grouped together to paint the Ukrainian flag on an unused building in the village.

Volunteers have painted the blue and yellow colours on the former Harper’s building as a sign of support for the war-torn country.

The group got up at 5am for five consecutive mornings to create the artwork on Knaresborough Road.

David Stead, one of the people behind the painting, shared the image on social media.

He said:

“Finally done. Thank you to John, Nik, Colin and Scott for giving up their free time to help the community. It’s been a pleasure.

“Thank you to Gary at Farball coating for supplying the paint, FOC [free of charge].

“Also I would like to thank Andrew Hart for being with us every morning showing his support, plus taking it upon himself to go and clean up the broken glass at the bus stop. Thank you all!”
