‘Blind Dates’ aplenty have been taking place throughout Harrogate, as the organisers of the annual Raworths Harrogate Festival have wrapped different books and left them in various spots around the town.

The organisers have wrapped dozens of books in plain paper, with a personal description of the book’s personality and left them in various locations for the public to pick up, take home, and enjoy – completely free!

Harrogate International Festivals – which has delivered the literary showcase on behalf of the town centre law firm for the last ten years – is delivering “Blind Date with a Book”, to help publicise this year’s event, which will be staged digitally.

Lizzie Brewster, Head of Development & Comms at Harrogate International Festivals, said:

“We have been busy wrapping dozens of books in plain paper and leaving them around Harrogate town centre for the public to take home with them.

“The books we are inviting the public to have a blind date cover a wide spectrum of the literary genre, from thrillers and historical novels, to comedy and auto-biographies.

“Looks can be deceptive and, as they say, don’t judge a book by its cover. We are asking those who do have a blind date with one our books to give it a go. You never know, it might lead to a lasting relationship with the author.

“In the immortal words of the late, great Cilla Black, I hope our ‘Blind Date with a Book’ will bring a ‘lorra, lorra’ laughs, thrills and above all, enjoyment!”

Starting tomorrow (Friday 23rd October), the three-day Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival – which is free to view – will feature a star-studded line up of writers, politicians and commentators.

Amongst those taking to the digital stage include best selling authors Bernard Cornwell and Ken Follet, former Vogue UK editor Alexandra Shulman, broadcaster Jeremy Vine, Labour MP Jess Phillips and British-Turkish novelist, political scientist and commentator, Elif Shafak.
