Harrogate Town star out to prove doubters wrong

Harrogate Town star Jack Muldoon will be looking to prove his doubters wrong when he faces former club Scunthorpe this weekend. The forward began his career with the Iron before he was released for "not being good enough" by his own admission. But after rebuilding his career from the lower leagues, Jack has gone on to be a football league player once again. Ahead of Scunthorpe's visit to the EnviroVent Stadium this weekend, he admitted he still has a special place for his first club:

"I’ve got a soft spot for the club but at the same time, it's not Scunthorpe United who are paying my wages.

"Also I didn’t leave, they chose to let me go and that was a decision they made.

"I probably wasn’t the right player at the time and I don’t think I was good enough, which is why I went down to the lower leagues to pursue my career. I knew ultimately I needed games and to get my head around it."

Jack lives near Scunthorpe and attends some of their games as a supporter. But he's assured fans he'll be fully focussed on the task at hand come Saturday. He said:

"I go and watch Scunthorpe every now and again but at the same time, it's about Harrogate and I’m fully focussed on what we’re doing.

"There will be no love lost on Saturday."

Jack scored 15 goals in 42 league appearances last season and has notched three times in the 2021/22 campaign so far. Yet he was full of praise for his new teammate Adam Armstrong, who has also been shortlisted for Player of the Month. He said:

"He's brilliant and he got my vote. He’s such a nice lad.

"He’s quiet off the pitch but he works his tail off, he's composed in front of goal, strong, wins his headers and he's got that all-round ability that everyone looks for in a team.

"He’s perfect for us and a great asset for the squad."

Harrogate Town host Scunthorpe United at EnviroVent Stadium on Saturday 9th October. Kick off is at 3pm.
