Harrogate Theatre have launched a School Partnership Scheme to deliver dynamic workshops to local primary schools.

Over the course of an academic year, Harrogate Theatre will work with three primary schools to provide exciting cross-curricular workshops, performance opportunities and staff training with a theatrical edge.

Niki Alderson, Creative Engagement Manager at Harrogate Theatre said:

“I’ve worked as both a primary school teacher and a youth theatre practitioner. This project brings those two areas together to bring the magic of theatre into schools.”

The School Partnership Scheme also includes access to discounted theatre tickets for staff, exclusive insights into the making of the award-winning pantomime and access behind the scenes to tour the beautiful Victorian theatre.

Niki said:

“Learning through creativity is a brilliant way to develop critical thinking, learn empathy and support the building of self-confidence and teamwork.

“Memorable learning experiences are so important to pupil engagement and development, and we can’t wait partner up and support schools in this way.

“Whether the workshops teach light and shadow using the theatre as inspiration or we liven up local history by pretending to be Betty Lupton, we want all pupils to have a creatively enriched learning experience.”

The special opportunity has been developed by the theatre’s skilled Creative Engagement team who collectively hold over 30 years of teaching and directing experience.
