Ashville College’s three-day Easter sports camp has been hailed a “huge success” with more than 120 boys and girls from across the Harrogate District attending each session.

The outdoor event, held on the College’s extensive campus, saw the participants getting involved in a variety of games and activities to introduce and develop fundamental skills in rugby and hockey, alongside an introduction to strength and conditioning principles.

It was delivered by experienced members of the College’s PE department including Gary Mercer, Head of Rugby; Laura Thompson, Head of Hockey; and Jamie Joyce, Ashville’s strength and conditioning coach.

Those attending, namely boys and girls from Years 5 to 8, came from across the Harrogate District, and for many it was their first opportunity this year to experience an organised outdoor sporting activity.

Dominic Bradburne, Ashville College Director of Sport, said:

“I’m delighted to say our Easter sports camp was a huge success, thoroughly enjoyed by participants and coaches alike.

“Considering the wealth of professional experience and expertise offered by our very own staff team, we seized the opportunity to bring this year’s event ‘in house’. All the sessions were led by experienced members of the Ashville PE department, who in turn were assisted by a number of our rugby and hockey sports Scholars.

“It was superb seeing so many boys and girls from different schools enjoying the sessions, which also gave us a golden opportunity to showcase the College’s fantastic sports facilities and extensive grounds.”
