Pupils at Willow Tree Primary School were whisked back to the 1940’s to celebrate the end of their World War II topic.

The school held an immersive World War II themed-day, focussing on what life was like on the Home Front.

And children were invited to dress in war-themed costumes, with the school’s corridors filled with evacuees, land girls, air raid wardens, and soldiers from the Home Guard.

Upper Key Stage Two Phase Leader, Tom Perkins, said:

“The whole day was a brilliant success – it was the perfect end to a fascinating topic.”

Staff hosted a carousel of activities, including using watercolours to create a piece of art depicting London under attack during the Blitz.

Children learnt about the key role Alan Turing played at Bletchley Park when cracking codes.

And rationing also proved a popular topic, with pupils making their own potato chocolate spread and putting into practice the need for absolute accuracy when it came to making the most out of treasured ingredients.
