The Harrogate Bus Company announced that ‘Sunday Freeway’ will be back this December, allowing people to travel for free around Harrogate using their electric buses.

They’ve teamed up with Harrogate BID to allow free travel on their electric buses every Sunday throughout the month, with the aim of providing a positive impact on both the environment and the local economy.

The Sunday Freeway scheme, which Harrogate BID had previously funded in 2019, is set to start on Sunday 6th December and will run into 2021.

Customers don’t need a voucher or a ticket, they’re just encouraged to ‘jump on and take a seat!’

Check out the latest timetables below to see which routes will be free every Sunday throughout December and into early next year:

2A & 2B – Harrogate – Bilton
3 – Harrogate – Jennyfield
6 – Harrogate – Pannal Ash

Sunday Freeway

In March, The Harrogate Bus Company celebrated a successful Sunday Freeway campaign in which they had offered over 77,000 free journeys across 55 Sundays.

This represented an estimated impact of over £1m to Harrogate’s economy and saw a rise of up to 90% for Sunday passenger numbers, decreasing car traffic into the town.

The company are still ensuring that social distancing is maintained on board, and limiting numbers to 24 people on a single deck bus.
