Harrogate Borough Council back return of parkrun - with one condition

Harrogate Borough Council are welcoming the imminent return of Parkrun on the Stray - as long as it follows covid guidelines.

Harrogate Borough Council are welcoming the imminent return of Parkrun on the Stray - as long as it follows covid guidelines. Yesterday (Tuesday 27th April) Parkrun organisers wrote to landowners requesting permission to return, with plans to reopen 5k events in England on Saturday 5th June. And in reply to runners on social media, Harrogate Borough Council have said that the event will have their support "as long as all relevant Covid-19 regulations are met" by organisers. [caption id="attachment_7230" align="aligncenter" width="1536"] Harrogate Borough Council have backed the safe return of Parkrun on the Stray.[/caption] With the event now waiting on permission to be able to return as planned, Parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt has sent out an urgent plea to ensure all events resume on the same date. Paul Sinton-Hewitt said:

"It is essential that the vast majority of 5k events in England return at the same time because, if only some of them did, those events that did open would become overwhelmed with participants. This would, of course, create an unsafe environment which we must do everything we can to avoid. "I'm calling on the entire parkrun community to help support our efforts to return on Saturday 5th June. "If you can influence and encourage your local landowner to confirm permission quickly, please do so. If you'd like to volunteer, let your local event know. If there is anything at all that you think that you can do to help your local team return, please get in touch with them."
Since Harrogate parkrun was first held in January 2021, more than 15,500 participants have covered a total distance of more than 625,000km. Find out more information about parkrun and their plans to resume here. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
