The annual Harrogate Bonfire was cancelled due to Covid-19, but the organisers are still asking Harrogate to come together on Bonfire Night. Harrogate residents are being invited to celebrate from their gardens on 5th November. Event organisers Harrogate Round Table are also taking the opportunity to fundraise for local charities and good causes. Organisers were forced to cancel the Harrogate Bonfire earlier this year amid safety concerns around Covid-19 - however they're still planning to celebrate! Harrogate Round Table are inviting Harrogate residents to unite from their gardens, shining a torch or light into the air at 6:30pm on Thursday 5th November whilst giving out a cheer and applause. The new socially-distanced event will take place in the absence of the Harrogate Bonfire and fireworks display on the Stray, which would have been celebrating its 50th anniversary. Having already sacrificed so much due to Covid-19, the Harrogate Round Table Charitable Trust are still aiming to celebrate 5th November, albeit in a different way this year!
The group are asking people to step into their gardens at 6:30pm on Bonfire Night, and shine a torch or a light into the air whilst giving a good old-fashioned cheer and applause. Residents are also being invited to decorate their houses, put on some fancy dress, or even enjoy some bonfire treats to mark the occasion. Harrogate Round Table had been looking for a new version of the event that would provide some fun for the whole family, whilst demonstrating solidarity and reducing social isolation. Whilst it is completely free to participate, Harrogate Round Table Charitable Trust are also using the opportunity to raise some much-needed funds for local charities and worthy causes.As we all know, many local charities are under incredible pressure at the moment, and Harrogate Round Table have been involved in buying and distributing essential food parcels to vulnerable and isolated people across the Harrogate district.
