Staff from a Harrogate architects practice started a 50km cycle ride for a local disability charity this morning (Wednesday).

More than 20 employees from S+SA Architects, plus clients and friends, started their sixth sponsored ride in aid of Disability Action Yorkshire.

Setting off from the firm’s Cardale Park offices, the riders followed a gentle route to Boroughbridge before heading back to Harrogate to cross the finish line.

S+SA Architects has a long-standing association with Disability Action Yorkshire, which began almost 20 years ago when the practice designed the charity’s residential care home on Claro Road.

Over the years, the team has raised many thousands-of-pounds for the charity, mostly through its annual sponsored bike rides.

S+SA Architects Business Manager Ellie Smith said:

“We are again hoping to raise much-needed funds for Disability Action Yorkshire, following what has been a very difficult two years for the charity sector.

“Through our fundraising, we will be continuing to support Disability Action Yorkshire’s incredible work in helping disabled people achieve their life aspirations, whatever they may be.

“We are really looking forward to getting back in the saddle for Disability Action Yorkshire, and as quite a few of our growing team taking part are none-cyclists, it will certainly be a real challenge for some of them.”

Your Harrogate’s Nick Hancock set the riders on their way this morning.

Ellie added:

“In addition to May’s sponsored bike ride, we are also having a big push on health and wellbeing for our staff, along with our premises at 1 Cardale Park, who are putting events on for Stress Awareness Month.

“This follows on from our charity miles challenge where S+SA sponsored staff members to compete against each other and run, cycle, walk and swim as many miles as they could over a given period, with the winner choosing which charity the proceeds would go to.”

Jackie Snape, Disability Action Yorkshire Chief Executive, said:

“It’s fantastic that S+SA Architects are once again riding to raise funds for us, and we are extremely grateful for their continued support.

“To be able to achieve our vision, which is to find solutions for disabled people whatever their aspirations, we are helped by funding from a variety of different sources, including individuals, charitable foundations and businesses such as S+SA Architects.”
