The Shaun Rankin restaurant at Grantley Hall near Ripon has been awarded a coveted Michelin Star and the first in the city.

The restaurant, which only opened alongside the hotel in July 2019, has been awarded one of the highest accolades in the culinary world despite dealing with multiple closures due to Covid-19 restrictions.

And well-known chef Shaun Rankin, who heads up the restaurant, called it both a “surprise and delight”:

“What a surprise and delight it was to be awarded our first Michelin star. I want to thank Michelin for believing in us and understanding what the restaurant at Grantley Hall is all about.

“Sustainability and highlighting the incredible produce and suppliers around Yorkshire are of huge importance to me, which is why we try to source all ingredients from within a 30-mile radius and never from outside of the UK.

“I’m so glad that out efforts have paid off and Michelin can see just how good the produce is. I want to say a massive thank you to the owners of Grantley Hall.”

Originally from Yorkshire, Shaun Rankin has worked at The Mayfair Hotel in London and attended the Thames Valley University at Slough.

In 2003 he joined Bohemia restaurant as Head Chef, gaining his first Michelin star two years later before opening his highly-acclaimed restaurant ‘Ormer’ in 2013.

Shaun said he is immensely proud to see both his team and time at Grantley Hall recognised with a star in the 2021 Michelin Awards.
