Coronavirus: Harrogate rate on infection drops below North Yorkshire average

Harrogate's Covid rate of infection has dropped below the average for North Yorkshire for just the second time since the turn of the year. The rate of infection for Harrogate is currently 121 cases per 100,000 people, dropping below the average for the county which stands at 123 cases per 100,000 people. And this marks just the second time that Harrogate have recorded an average below that of the county as a whole since 3rd January. [caption id="attachment_6703" align="alignnone" width="2329"] The average rate of infection for Harrogate and North Yorkshire (Graph: northyorks.gov.uk)[/caption] The rate of infection for Harrogate had been below the average for the county throughout November and December before a rise in cases in January. Richard Flinton, Chief Executive at North Yorkshire County Council, said:

"There is real hope via the vaccination programme and from next week, our NHS colleagues here will start to implement the next stage of their programme. Having nearly completed the first dose vaccines for the first four groups from over-80s to those over 70 and/or designated as extremely clinically vulnerable – the wider vaccination roll-out will commence. "A huge thank you must go to all the NHS staff and the many volunteers who are making sure this programme is hitting its targets and saving lives. More than 175,000 first doses have been administered across North Yorkshire and every one helps us head towards recovery and out of lockdown."
