A community group have received more than £3,000 in donations as they look to open an independent community-run museum in Knaresborough.
A community group have received more than £3,000 in donations as they look to open an independent community-run museum in Knaresborough. The Knaresborough Museum Association launched a crowdfunding page earlier this month with the aim of raising £35,000 in order to renovate the former Castle Girls’ School in the town. And the group have thanked those who have contributed so far via their Crowdfunding page, with the total currently standing at £3,325. Their vision is to open a new heritage site by the end of the year that will celebrate the town’s history, including its geology, archaeology and social history. https://twitter.com/knaresmuseum/status/1353609643617120258?s=24 Independent community-run museum Knaresborough Museum Association (KMA) started fundraising earlier this month with the view of renovating the new site, as well as creating disability access and buying equipment. The group have revealed their intentions for the new museum via their Crowdfunding page, which they hope to open before the end of the year:
“The vision is to create an impressive new heritage site celebrating the history of Knaresborough including the town’s amazing geology, archaeology and social history. “The Museum will be more than a few artefacts and display boards. Immersive sound effects, oral histories and film footage will make for exciting and interactive installations that allow local people’s stories to be at the heart of the museum. “Knaresborough Museum Association (KMA) also plan to create a flexible temporary exhibition space where community groups and KMA can display art, photography, historical documents and artefacts – so that there will be a rolling programme of events to encourage return visits.”Find the Crowdfunding page here, which includes more details on the project and visions for the future.
