Yesterday’s heavy snow showers caused a lot of disruption across the area and it appears the chaos has continued – with several schools choosing to remain closed today due to dangerous roads and pathways.

We’ll be keeping you updated throughout the day on any school closures, traffic and travel news and any other useful information from across the Harrogate District.

3:44pm – Harrogate Town match rescheduled

Harrogate Town’s postponed fixture with Exeter City has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening (19th January) at 6:30pm.

The game was unable to go ahead at the EnviroVent Stadium tomorrow afternoon due to a frozen pitch, but has been swiftly rescheduled.

3:22pm – Harrogate Borough Council postpone waste collections planned for tomorrow

Harrogate Borough Council have postponed all household waste and recycling collections tomorrow (Saturday 16th January) with more snow predicted for Harrogate overnight.

The council have said they will resume on the next scheduled collection date and have apologised for any inconvenience caused.

2:08pm – Flyer running fewer buses to Leeds Bradford Airport

Flyer will be running fewer buses than usual to Leeds Bradford Airport from Harrogate and Bradford.

The next bus will be at 3pm.

2:04pm – National Rail running reduced service at Harrogate until close of play tomorrow

National Rail have announced a reduced service will run at Harrogate until the end of the day tomorrow (Saturday 16th January) having seen major disruption due to the weather.

There are currently a number of faults with the signalling system in the Harrogate area and trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised.

1:59pm – Vaccinations at Great Yorkshire Showground rescheduled

Vaccinations set to take place at The Great Yorkshire Showground tomorrow have been postponed until Sunday due to icy conditions in the car park.

Edwina told Your Harrogate she was due to take her father for a vaccination tomorrow morning, before being told the appointment would be pushed back by 24 hours.

1:50pm – Yorkshire Water give update on burst main in Harrogate

Yorkshire Water have apologised for the delay in fixing a burst water main in Harrogate.

The team are currently waiting for traffic management to arrive before they can continue with repairs.

1:46pm – How about a snowball fight instead?

Harrogate Town and Exeter City have shared some banter via Twitter after tomorrow’s match was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

1:02pm – And another!

The 1a, 1b and 1c are also now back up and running as normal in Harrogate!

12:51pm – Two more Harrogate bus services back to normal

The 2A and 2B are now running as normal and are able reach their usual stops.

The two electric bus services run between Harrogate and Bilton.

12:35pm – GAME POSTPONED

Harrogate Town’s home fixture with Exeter, set to take place at the EnviroVent Stadium tomorrow, has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

12:07pm – RHS Harlow Carr to remain closed tomorrow

RHS Garden Harlow Carr will remain closed tomorrow (Saturday 16th January) as the area is braced for more snow.

The garden have asked visitors to contact them for a full refund.

12:05pm – Bus between Harrogate and Knaresborough back to normal

The 1B bus between Harrogate and Knaresborough Bus Stations is now able to run its full route.

The service had been forced to skip stops earlier in the day due to conditions.

11:49am – MORE SNOW forecasted for Harrogate tonight

Here we go again!

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning in place from midnight tonight until 6pm tomorrow as Harrogate prepares for more snow.

11:09am – Bus to Leeds Bradford Airport cancelled

Flyer have been forced to cancel their 9:30am A2 bus from Bradford and 11am bus from Harrogate to Leeds Bradford Airport.

The next service will be at 10:30am from Bradford and 12pm from Harrogate.

10:49am – HELP Harrogate are #HereToHelp

HELP Harrogate (Harrogate Easy Living Project) are offering their help to those who may be struggling due to the weather.

The charity are a team of volunteers who support people across the Harrogate district to stay well supported at home.

10:35am – Bus to Knaresborough and Wetherby back up and running

The Harrogate Bus Company have been able to get The 8 bus back up and running from Harrogate to Knaresborough and Wetherby.

10:33am – Household waste recycling centres closed

Household waste recycling centres at Harrogate and Ripon among others are closed due to the conditions.

Other sites will be open but NYCC are asking people to only use them if essential.

10:30am – LNER trains cancelled

LNER have been forced to make the following cancellations and alternations to journeys due to a problem with lineside equipment near Harrogate:

  • 11:33 King’s Cross to Harrogate is Cancelled.
  • 13:33 King’s Cross to Harrogate terminates at Leeds.
  • 15:33 King’s Cross to Harrogate terminates at Leeds.
  • 17:33 King’s Cross to Harrogate terminates at Leeds.

9:26am – Harrogate bin collections stood down

Harrogate Borough Council have been forced to stand down their usual bin collection rounds due to the icy conditions:

9:21am – Harrogate College closed

Harrogate College is closed again today but students can continue their learning online as normal.

9:10am – Some disruption to LNER services due to signalling fault at Harrogate

There have been some delays to LNER services this morning caused by faults with the signalling system in the Harrogate area. 

As a result, trains have and will be delayed by up to 45 minutes, cancelled or revised.

LNER have said they anticipate disruption will continue until the end of service today.

8:47am – NYCC assure residents that all priority roads have been gritted

North Yorkshire County Council have assured residents that all priority roads across the region have been gritted overnight.

They are stressing, however, that gritting doesn’t guarantee an ice-free surface and to avoid travel if you can.

8:43am – Buses running between Harrogate and Knaresborough

8:40am – Western Primary School opening at 10am

Western Primary School in Harrogate will be opening their doors at 10am this morning, in order to give staff and pupils more time to travel in safely.

8:37am – Harrogate High open but advising students to avoid dangerous pathways

Harrogate High School will be open today but are asking that any students attending get a lift when possible due to the dangerous icy conditions.

8:35am – “Only travel if your journey is essential”

Traffic Constable at North Yorkshire Police David Minto has taken to Twitter to warn motorists off the roads due to the ‘very poor’ conditions of the roads.

8:32am – Fewer trains between York and Leeds via Harrogate

A fallen tree has damaged the signalling system between Leeds and Horsforth.

Northern will be running fewer services between Leeds and York via Harrogate to allow engineers to make repairs safely.

8:20am – Harrogate Bus Company reveal different routes for some buses due to conditions

Harrogate bus company have said that their usual 21 service is running directly between Knaresborough, Minskip and Boroughbridge but is unable to reach stops in the villages.

The 2B service from Harrogate to Bilton/New Park will use the normal route as far as Bachelor Gardens, but will be missing stops at The Knox and Skipton Road. Buses are using Crab Lane and Bilton Lane instead.

The 1 is only running between Harrogate and Knaresborough bus station, and 2A from Harrogate to Bilton/Dene Park isn’t able to reach the stops on Dene Park.

8:15am – Burst pipe causing water issue in HG1

Yorkshire Water are aware and in the middle of tackling a burst pipe in HG1 on Crescent Road this morning.

They’ve also asked for residents to be patient, with the weather conditions meaning their team could take a little bit longer than usual to arrive on site.
