5 of the best Mother’s Day gift ideas

Here are five ways which you can still express your love to your mum this Mother's Day - despite the restrictions!

By Clementine Hall

This year, Mother’s Day falls on the 14th March. It seems hard to believe, but last year Mother’s Day was the day before the UK went into its first lockdown. And here we are, one year later in our 3rd lockdown (yep, third).

So this year it’s time to think outside the box and get creative for Mother’s Day 2021 in lockdown, which is something none of us thought we would ever have to do but hey, this year has been full of surprises!

Normally we might be treating our mums to a meal out or a day trip away to show how much we love and appreciate them. But here are five ways which you can still express your love despite the restrictions, and we could definitely all do with feeling an extra bit of love and appreciation at the moment.

And to those of us who’s mothers aren’t around anymore, or have lost mothers or grandmothers during this difficult past year, we will all be thinking of you.

1. An ‘I owe you’

With the end of lockdown now finally in sight, why not postpone the Mother’s Day celebrations until then by writing an ‘I owe you’ note. It could be an “I owe you Sunday lunch at your favourite restaurant” or “I owe you a trip to the seaside”, and then you can both decide on a date to enjoy it together when the time is right.

2. Arrange a thoughtful dinner

With restaurants out of the picture, you could treat your mum to a special meal delivery kit to her house.

You could even order the kit for yourself as well and cook and eat it together over Zoom. This is the perfect opportunity to support a local business whilst enjoying a delicious restaurant quality meal!

3. Send flowers

This one seems obvious, but there really is nothing better than receiving fresh flowers is there?

This one will be a popular choice so we recommend making your order now whilst there are delivery slots available. M&S are offering Mother’s Day bouquets with free delivery but it might be worth checking out local florists around your area for that extra personal touch.

4. Create a photo book

If you’re a fan of crafting then this one is for you.

You can either print off the photos yourself and glue them into a book of your choice or there are loads of websites that will do this for you. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and is something that will be kept for years.

You’re in lockdown after all, so if you’ve got the time on your hands this gift is a really special thing to bring to life.

5. Create a hamper

Can’t decide on one gift to give to your mum? Then why don’t you fill a box with all of her favourite things.

You could buy a basket or a box and fill it with treats such as chocolate, wine, nice smellies for the bath, candles, the list is endless. You can also fill it with little notes to remind her of how much you love her.

There are also lots of pre-made hampers online that can be delivered to the door on Mother’s Day.
