Harrogate International Festivals' most flamboyant event officially returned to Crescent Gardens this morning (Friday).
Spiegeltent 2024 was officially opened by Ben Ogden, representing sponsors Ogden’s of Harrogate, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am.
Last seen in 2022, Spiegeltent is Harrogate’s much-loved summer music venue and will be running until 7th July.
This year, it will welcome back some familiar faces as well as some exciting new names.
With its bohemian mirrored walls, wooden floors, red velvet booths and lamped lighting, the venue will form the perfect backdrop for a host of Festival favourites, jazz, funk, soul, dance and more.
Sharon Canavar, Chief Executive of Harrogate International Festivals, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that Ogden of Harrogate has once again chosen to sponsor the Spiegeltent.
“As an arts charity, we rely on funding and support from fantastic businesses like Ogden’s, and without their support we wouldn’t be able to bring the Spiegeltent and so many wonderful, world-class performers to Harrogate.”
The James Street business is run by Robert and Ben Ogden who have a long affiliation with the Festivals over recent decades.
The pair are direct descendants of founder James Ogden, who in 1893 opened Ogden’s Little Diamond Shop.
Ben Ogden said:
“The Spiegeltant is a stunning venue that brings real sparkle to people’s livesand as such it feels like the perfect fit for us.
"Spiegeltents, like Ogden’s, have a rich history and we are looking forward to seeing the diverse array of talented musicians coming to Harrogate this summer.”
Drag queen superstar Divina De Campo opens the Spiegeltent with a glamourous evening of cabaret, whilst Festival favourites The Gypsy Queens and the feather-ruffling House of Burlesque with their iconic Silent Disco are back to join this year’s line-up.
Also making a welcome return is Harrogate’s legendary nightclub, Jimmy’s, which is back by popular demand.
Bradford-based dance company Punjabi Roots, who went down a storm at last year’s Harrogate Carnival, will make their Spiegeltent debut, along with contemporary soul singer Mica Sefia and the prize-winning Gildas Quartet, famed for exploring new ways of performing classical music.
