School near Harrogate named Secondary School of the Year

Pupils at Queen Ethelburga's College.

Queen Ethelburga's College has been named the North's Independent Secondary School of the Year for Academic Excellence for the fourth consecutive year.

That’s according to The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2025, which recognises the top independent schools in the UK based on their performance at A Level and GCSE.

The College, located between Harrogate and York, is part of Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, which also includes QE Faculty, another senior school that recently won the ISA Senior School of the Year award.

The Faculty ranked 8th in the North and retained a spot in the top 200 schools nationally.

Daniel Machin, Principal at Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate, said:

"To retain this Parent Power accolade for the fourth-year running is demonstrative of the unwavering commitment at Queen Ethelburga’s for our students not only to achieve the best they can with the gifts that they have, but also our ability to innovate and provide support for all of their individual aspirations.

“This, alongside The Faculty of Queen Ethelburga’s winning ISA Senior School of the Year in November, gives recognition and reward to the unique success of our four-school model and  our two distinct senior school pathways.

“It is heartwarming that accolades like those from the Sunday Times Parent Power and the ISA Awards can recognise the value of meeting the diverse needs of all students; alongside the essential parental support and crucially, the unfailing efforts from staff to provide the best care and education possible."
