North Yorkshire Police have opened the recruitment window for volunteer police officers known as "Special Constables."

North Yorkshire Police begin recruiting for volunteer officers North Yorkshire Police have opened the recruitment window for volunteer police officers known as "Special Constables." “Specials” are volunteer police officers who have the same uniform and powers as regular paid police officers. They volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month to policing North Yorkshire and carry out a full range of operational and front-line duties. A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:

"“Specials” as they are known, come from all walks of life and backgrounds. They’re someone who will learn new skills, see new things and make tangible differences to the lives of the public they serve. "Special Constables have the same training, powers and opportunities as regular officers. They work with different teams in North Yorkshire Police which include, response, neighbourhood policing and roads policing."
North Yorkshire Police has released a video to show what life is like on the beat for three Special Constables. The video features: Ezequiel Gomez Balaguer who volunteers with a response team in York city centre. Josh Hill who volunteers with the Roads Policing Team across the county. Klara Moyes who volunteers with a response team in Ripon.
