A new Christmas song about Harrogate is launching with the aim of shooting for number one this festive season.
The song has been coordinated by Harrogate hotelier Simon Cotton, Managing Director of the HRH Group which includes The Fat Badger and the Yorkshire Hotel.
The lyrics have been written by Simon himself, whilst the music has been created by colleague Joe Pearce.
It’s been written entirely from scratch and does not include any music or lyrics from other Christmas classics.
It's being composed by The Straymen, and will be called 'Merry Christmas Harrogate' (Feat. Harry Arnison, Harvey and Isabella Burns).
Speaking to Your Harrogate about the campaign to get to Christmas number one, Simon said:
“The hype at Christmas is around who’s going to get to number one in the charts and, it might be a bit farfetched, but I thought why not have a shot at it? A sausage roll song made it to number 1 a few years ago!”
Simon added:
“A few months ago I scribbled down some lyrics and thought I’d write a Christmas song about Harrogate.
“Joe who works in our marketing department with me is really musical, so he wrote the music and we’ve given it to some friends of ours who are in a band.
“We’re cracking on with it, we’ve got a lot to do, and the band have got to get in the studio and get it recorded and see how it sounds.”
Your Harrogate Radio will be the first to broadcast the song when it has been produced in the coming weeks.
A music video is also in the works.
