Man diagnosed with incurable cancer to walk 268 miles for Harrogate charity A 53-year-old man who was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic and liver cancer has pledged to raise £10,000 for Harrogate charity Active Against Cancer. Ant Henson, who lives just outside of Ripon, received his devastating diagnosis in April 2022 when he was rushed to intensive care after collapsing. He has since undergone a pioneering operation and treatment, including two-stage embolisation and Luterthera LU177 treatment, which has extended his life. And as part of a new fundraising challenge, Ant plans to walk 268 miles in his garden - the length of Pennine Way. It’s all in aid of Active Against Cancer (AAC), who helped him keep up his physical and mental wellbeing since his diagnosis. Active Against Cancer helps those living and being treated for cancer maintain and achieve a level of fitness to get them through the ordeals of treatment and surgery, as well as providing mental and wellbeing support. Ant said:
“AAC have kept up my physical and mental wellbeing for the past 8 months and helped me live as normal a life as possible. “Without them I would not have been able to deal with the treatments I have received and would not be able to continue to move forward - they have been a key part in keeping me alive and positive!”After each treatment, Ant gradually built up walking around the garden, progressing from a few hundred metres to 2 miles a day. He has now completed 8 months of radiation therapy, which involved being injected with radiation then spending 24 hours in a lead-lined room followed by two weeks of isolation. Since launching his campaign, he has been able to raise £8,888 - just over £1,000 shy of his target. Would you like to contribute towards Ant’s fundraising campaign? Find his donation page here.
