Lib Dems "concerned" about lack of government investment into Harrogate

Reacting to news that the Prime Minister has scrapped the Towns Fund, Lib Dem Tom Gordon has raised concerns about the lack of investment into Harrogate.

Lib Dems "concerned" about lack of government investment into Harrogate The Lib Dem’s have slammed the Government's decision to scrap the Towns Fund, as "levelling up" fails to become a reality.  Reacting to news that the Prime Minister has scrapped the scheme, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Harrogate and Knaresborough Tom Gordon has written to the Secretary of State to raise concerns about the lack of investment into Harrogate. Tom Gordon said:

"The lack of real investment into Harrogate is troubling. We have missed out on funding from the Towns Fund and from round one and two of the Levelling Up Fund. "Harrogate Convention Centre needs investment if it is going to continue to be competitive as a venue on a regional and national level. "It is telling that the only place across North Yorkshire to receive Levelling Up money so far sits within the Prime Minister's own constituency.”
In Tom’s letter he calls for greater clarity on the processes and timescales for round three of the Levelling Up Fund. He adds:
“Harrogate Convention Centre attracts visitors to the District throughout the year, generating vital business for the numerous hotels, bars and restaurants. "The ongoing success of the Convention Centre is tied to the ongoing success of those local businesses. This Government can not take Harrogate for granted.”

Tom has asked for assurances that North Yorkshire Council will receive support to enhance the previously unsuccessful bid, rather than be sent back to the drawing board to bear the financial burden of starting from scratch.
