Knaresborough woman marks eight years of road safety talks

Lauren Doherty's Road Safety Talks at Starbeck Primary Academy.

A Knaresborough woman's road safety charity is celebrating eight years of sharing its message to children and adults across the country.

Lauren Doherty’s Road Safety Talks started in 2016 with a talk to 10 children at Dacre Braithwaite School.

Eight years later, Lauren has now shared her message with more than 12,000 individuals across the country.

Lauren was involved in a serious incident in 2008 that left her paralysed and needing two carers at all times.

She was struck by a van when crossing the road, but has since dedicated her time to visiting schools and other organisations to speak of the dangers that roads can pose.

She has been recognised with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for Services to Education and was recently invited to the King’s Coronation in London as a special guest.

And This Morning viewers will have caught a glimpse of Lauren and her friend and colleague Rebecca Blunstone in an interview with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley.

Speaking about the eight-year milestone, Rebecca said:

“Quite where the last 8 years have gone we don’t know, but what an incredible 8 years it has been with this last year being no exception!

“A huge, huge thank you to everyone who has not only supported, encouraged and believed in Road Safety Talks, but Lauren and I personally too.

“We couldn’t do what we do without you all. Just remember… never say never, because sometimes the impossible is possible.”
