Julian Smith holds Skipton and Ripon seat for Conservatives

Julian Smith MP has held his seat in Skipton and Ripon.

Julian Smith has maintained his seat for Ripon and Skipton after also receiving a Knighthood in the dissolution honours list.

The result was announced at around 6:30am this morning (Friday).

Julian said after the win:

"Delighted to have been re-elected as MP for Skipton & Ripon. Thank you to the candidates, my local party, agent & parliament team, CCHQ & the volunteers who supported me.

"The doorstep conversations of this post Covid election were humbling - UK democracy is alive & kicking."

It came after it was revealed that Labour had won the general election in a landslide victory.

Julian Smith received 18,833 votes, narrowly beating Labour’s Malcolm Birks who received 17,183. The overall turnout in Skipton and Ripon was 67.69 per cent.

Mr Smith has held the seat since 2010. During his time as an MP he has served in the Conservative government as Chief Whip and also Northern Ireland Secretary.

Late on Thursday night it was announced that he would become Sir Julian Smith, receiving a knighthood in Rishi Sunak's dissolution honours list.
