Harrogate school working with police after travellers force their way onto sports field A Harrogate school has revealed it is working with police after a group of travellers forced their way onto its sports field. Ashville College off Yew Tree Lane were notified of the traveller families' presence on Friday evening (9th June). Police have attended the scene, and the school is working closely with them to remove the travellers and their vehicles as soon as possible. In a statement, a spokesperson for Ashville College said:
"Naturally, our priority is to ensure the safety of our pupils and to minimise disruption to normal School life. "We have taken a number of precautionary measures today including postponing home sports fixtures and ensuring close supervision of our boarders as they move around the campus."All parents were contacted on Friday evening and the school have said they will continue to update them as they monitor the situation. The school statement added:
"We are grateful to our families for their understanding, and praise our staff for making every reasonable effort to prevent the break-in. "The continued vigilance of our staff and supervision of pupils on-site is of paramount importance."Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
