Harrogate Railway reserves win Whitworth Cup

Harrogate Railway reserves celebrate winning the Whitworth Cup.

Harrogate Railway Athletic's reserves have won the Harrogate & District Whitworth Cup for a second consecutive year.

The team beat Knaresborough FC Reserves 1-0 at The Dagger Living Stadium last night (Wednesday).

The winning goal was an 87th minute free-kick from 25 yards, scored by Railway's Henry Gardner.

Henry was also named man of the match.

Captain James Beecher said:

“We’re all buzzing. We’ve had a rocky season but I think this is the first time that we’ve all gelled together on the pitch.

“I’m really happy and I think you can tell how happy we all are from the post-match celebrations.

“It’s nice to end with some silverware, especially after the start to the season we had.”

Manager Jamie Dunn said:

“It’s a young group and we are hard on them, because we hold them at high standards.

“Tonight it felt like it all came together. They all grafted, stuck in and worked hard against a quality Knaresborough team.

“And a moment of magic from Henry Gardner with that free kick… We’re delighted.”
