Harrogate's annual Race for Life event has raised more than £32,000 to combat cancer.
The event was held on the Stray on Sunday (21st July) with hundreds of participants taking on 3k, 5k and 10k routes.
The Race for Life aims to raise money for Cancer Research UK, which funds life-saving cancer research to enable scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
And in Harrogate alone, the event was able to raise £32,000.
One of the larger contributors towards the final fundraising total was Lucy’s Pop Choir, who were able to raise more than £10,000 between their three local groups.
A spokesperson for Lucy’s Pop Choir said:
“Between our Leeds, York & Harrogate choirs, we've collectively raised £10K and I couldn't be more proud.
“What an achievement from my amazing choir members! Well done everyone!”
Since it began in 1994, more than 10 million people have taken part in Race for Life, funding 30 years of hope and progress.
Money raised has helped develop radiotherapy which benefits more than 130,000 people with cancer in the UK every year.
Andy Curran, Chief Executive of Standard Life, part of Phoenix Group, said:
“We are incredibly proud to continue as headline sponsor for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, with the opportunity to encourage participation across the country.
“By working to raise funds for life-saving research, we can move towards a future where people live longer and healthier lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
