George Mills from Harrogate ran a mile in just 3 minutes and 49 seconds yesterday (Wednesday) - the fastest time in the world this year.
Harrogate man runs fastest mile in the world A well-known Harrogate runner recorded the fastest mile in the world yesterday (Wednesday). George Mills, the son of former Leeds United footballer Danny Mills, ran a mile in just 3 minutes and 49 seconds at the TSV Stadion in Germany. George's time is the fastest recorded by any male in the world in 2023 and the fastest outdoor time by a Brit since 2008. The 24-year-old was competing in the Pfungstädter Abendsportfest - his third race in just one week. Speaking on his Instagram after a week of competitions in Germany, he said:
"That was fun! It's great to be back racing in Berlin. I had my first experience here last year and couldn’t wait to come back. "I'm enjoying these late season races a lot, keep them rolling!"George, who started running with Harrogate Harriers as a youngster, became British champion in 2020.
