Harrogate carer wins award for personalised care and preventing hospital admission A live-in carer in Harrogate has won an award for personalised care and for preventing a hospital admission for her client. Leanne Bellwood has won Carefound Home Care’s prestigious PLATO award after learning her client’s own language and recognising signs of a stroke. Carefound Home Care works with local families, the NHS and local authorities to help older people live safely at home and avoid being admitted to hospital or a care home. And Leanne Bellwood, a live-in carer at the home care provider’s Harrogate branch, has been recognised with their prestigious PLATO award for learning her client's own personal words and phrases to aid communication, and recognising signs of a stroke, arranging emergency medical attention, and avoiding a hospital admission. Carefound Home Care’s PLATO award involves employees from across the company voting for exceptional examples of carers demonstrating their company values - Personalised, Local, Accountable, Together and Outstanding. The winner not only receives public appreciation but also £100 in gift vouchers. Commenting on her PLATO award, Leanne said:

“I was overwhelmed and at a loss for words when I heard I had won the PLATO award. "I have never had this recognition from any care company I have worked for. "I really do love working for Carefound Home Care - they put the needs of the client over the organisation's needs and it’s so rewarding being able to help people live at home and remain as independent as they can be."
In their State of Health and Care of Older People in England 2023 report, Age UK recently highlighted the need to enable older people to stay well for longer at home and reduce their reliance on crisis health care in hospitals. Carla Hainsworth, Registered Branch Manager at Carefound Home Care in Harrogate, said:
“Our PLATO values drive everything we do at Carefound Home Care and we’re so proud of Leanne for being voted the winner of this award. “Leanne has supported her client to live safely at home with dementia for several years now. The care she provides is a great example of how live-in care can enable a more consistent care service from a carer who better understands a person’s individual needs. “Not only did she learn her client’s unique words and phrases to help improve fluid and nutritional intake, but she was also able to identify subtle symptoms of a stroke and arrange immediate medical intervention, thereby avoiding an emergency hospital admission.”
