Harrogate boy diagnosed with Leukemia nears dream trip to Disneyland

7-year-old Charlie dreams of going to Disneyland in Florida.

A fundraising campaign to send a 7-year-old boy on his dream trip to Disneyland is nearing its goal.

Harrogate youngster Charlie Thompson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in August last year.

He has since endured various blood tests, injections and treatments, with his mum, Victoria, describing him as a “human pin cushion.”

But Charlie is responding well to treatment and his family are planning a special celebration when he rings the bell - with the help of the Harrogate community.

For the end of his two-year treatment, which is expected to be next year, a campaign has been launched to send him on his dream trip to Disneyland in Florida.

It’s aiming to raise £6,000 - and is less than £100 from its target.

Victoria Thompson, Charlie’s Mum, said:

“We as a family have a long road ahead of us and it makes it that little bit easier knowing we have all the love and support from those around us.

“Charlie is a strong little boy and at the end of all of this, when he gets to ring that bell, we would love to make his dream come true and to take him on his dream holiday.”

She added:

“We hope and pray he continues to respond well to all treatments.

"He is currently at home and we hope he’ll have more time at home than stays in hospital.

“The staff at the LGI, Community Children’s Nurses, support from local charities and outside sources along with love and support from family and friends has been amazing and it’s truly appreciated!”

A raffle is being held to support the fundraising campaign, with prizes donated from local businesses.

These include Painting Pots, Hirst’s Bakery, Love Brownies, Kendall’s Farm Butchers, Harrogate Olde Sweet Shop, Harrogate Fisheries, Mama Doreen’s, The Four Leaf and the Yorkshire Soap Company.

Tickets are charged at £5 each and can be bought by contacting Victoria or Team Charlie on Facebook.
